KFA 2: ENERGY Conservation
Energy conservation refers to efforts made to reduce energy consumption. Energy conservation can be achieved through increased efficient energy use, in conjunction with decreased energy consumption and/or reduced consumption from conventional energy sources. The most critical aspect of energy management is linked to Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions which have an impact on climate related aspects.
Environmental reductions in GHG emissions are closely linked to efficient energy management in production and logistical management. In order to mitigate climate change impacts it is imperative to reduce GHG emissions. AECI has been actively gathering data in order to calculate the Group’s carbon footprint. Based on this data and the consequent energy audits which will be undertaken as part of achieving our environmental targets, AECI aims to reduce the Group’s carbon footprint by setting emissions reduction targets.
ENERGY
INTERVENTION: Conduct an energy audit at each Group business.
TARGET: Conduct individual Group business energy audits by end-2012.
GHG EMISSIONS
INTERVENTION: Assess CO2 emissions in logistics and packaging.
TARGET: Assess CO2 emissions in the transport of goods and reduce packaging waste and enhance recycling where possible by mid-2012.
